4. What computer license size should I buy?

You can choose to buy computer license upgrade, for example ,you can upgrade the number of computer monitored from 50 to 100.

6. I can monitor my computer's Internet activities, but why can't monitor other computers' Internet activities?

This is because other computer's mail doesn't pass through your NIC. The way to fix this problem is to install the LaneCat Engine on the computer of the network main export port.

7. My company has added some new computers, What should I do if my Licenses are not enough

You only need to buy Licenses you are lack of.

8. Can LaneCat still work if I close the LaneCat.Client?

As long as the LaneCat engine was working, LaneCat will monitor all Internet activities. But if users want to view log, user should run LaneCat.Client and select monitored computers and monitored items to check.

9. My computer's operating system is window XP, Why can't I find LaneCat Engine on my computer?

If you can't find LaneCat.Engine in windows XP, shut down your firewall and you will see it.

10. Frequently asked questions in MSDE installation

1. MainEngineThread is returning 1641
That means you should reboot computer.
2. MainEngineThread is returning 1603
You should login as administrator, and check the Server services are on. Make sure Workstation service is on, delete the LaneCatDB folders and reinstall again.
If that doesn't work, close firewall/Anti-virus software and try again.

11. Why system alerts "Running SQL script error"?

You should login as administrator when you install LaneCat. Please change your login status and try again.

12. Why can't I monitor any computers including my own computer after successfully installed?

This is because LAN IP ranges you set are not formal. Default LAN IP ranges of LaneCat are:
• 10.0.0.0~10.255.255.255
• 172.16.0.0~172.31.255.255
• 192.168.0.0~192.168.255.255
If you don' use these LAN IP in your LAN, you should add them manually by following steps:
• Open LaneCat.Client.
• Open Settings--Engine Management--Advance settings.
• Add the LAN current IP range, and restart engine.

13. I has installed LaneCat on proxy server with two NICs, but it can't block QQ, Why?

Proxy Server that has two NICs may cause QQ block failed. The way to fix it is to shut down the UDP 8000 port in your Proxy Server. It won't affect the nomal landing and use of QQ.

14. I has forbidden QQ, but my employees can still use it and some of data packages in our intranet were lost, why?

This's because there are conflicts between LaneCat and your firewall/route when LaneCat trying to block UDP 8000, solutions as below:
• Cancel the UDP 8000 blocking in LaneCat, you can create a file-LCServer.ini, type [General] DOARP=0 and save.Then restart LaneCat.Engine.
• Close UDP 8000 port in your firewall/rout.

15. I installed SQL server database when I installed LaneCat last time. Now I want to reinstall LaneCat. If I want to use LaneCat's MSED database instead, is that OK.

Yes, LaneCat supports the default database-MSDE and SQL SERVER; you can choose the suitable one in the installation process. After database installation, If you want to change database, please uninstall LaneCat Engine and database (You should uninstall former database fully otherwise error may occur), then install again.

16. LaneCat has a client part, do I need to install it on all computers?

You don't need to install LaneCat.Client on all computers, you only need to install LaneCat.Engine on the one with the network main export port. LaneCat.Client part is a console, you can control LaneCat.Engine by it. You can refer to <LaneCat engine installation.doc> for more information.

17. If LAN in my company has been divided into many VLANs, how can I install LaneCat?

If LAN had been divided into many VLANs by Three-layer Switch which has a port connected to the Internet, you need to make a mirror port, and set these two ports in the same VLAN.
If user has any problem in setting Mirror port, user can get help from local suppliers, suffering the Internet, or get help from our technical support.
After user had set Mirror Port successfully, user need to connect computer which LaneCat.Engine located to the Mirror Port.
If the switch you use is Cisco, you can't ping other computers in your LAN after you connected mirror port to monitor computer that LaneCat.Engine located. We recommend you install a new NIC in monitor computer and connect it to the same VLAN that LAN main export located. Set the correct IP, and make sure you can ping other computers. In this situation, the new NIC is used for blocking data packages, the old is used for monitoring computers. You can get help from our technical support.

18. I had a problem when I installed MSDE, and I found a record in MSDE Setup log, what does that mean?

When you try to install the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) part of Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, you may receive the following messages:
• Error: MainEngineThread is returning 1603
• Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0

Please check whether you had open sqlagent$LaneCat service in control panel or you can run: scm -action 5 -service "sqlagent$LaneCat" -exepath "C:\LaneCatdb\MSSQL$LANECAT\Binn\sqlagent.EXE"（reset sqlagent.exe directory）

20. Why can't I login LaneCat.Engine? Why it alerts "can't find specified engine"?

When you have install LaneCat.Client and LaneCat.Engine properly, and you can find "MSSQL$LANECAT" in the SERVICE, but computer alert that "can't find specified engine", that is because the firewall or Antivirus software on your computer had forbidden UDP1434 that our database uses. So you just need to you reset your firewall or Antivirus software.

1. How to install LaneCat Inside Version

①LaneCat Inside Version can be installed and function successfully as long as computers in the LAN can communicate with each other without being affected by the structure of LAN。　②After installing the Inside version ,you should copy Client generated by it to the computers intended to be monitored and install Client on it for the Inside version to work properly.　　　　
Specific procedure：
①Choose one computer in LAN to install LaneCat Inside Version，Install the specified database firstly——>then install the Engine——>Install the Console in the end。②Click “Start-----Program----LaneCat”, then a window named Create Client Setup File will pop up, enter the static IP of the computer on which you install LaneCat, then the Client “LICSetup.exe” will be generated , you can install this executable application on the computer you want to monitor.③Installing Inside Version finishes!!

2. Is it necessary to install LaneCat Inside Version on every monitored computer

Not necessary , you only need to install Client generated by Inside Version on the monitored computer.

3. Why I can not view the monitored computer after installing LaneCat Inside Version　

①Perhaps Client was not generated after installing ,or you forget to install the Client on the monitored computer。②Perhaps the firewall embedded in OS was not switched off. In this case ,just to switch off the firewall。③Computers in LAN can not communicate with each other properly , troubleshoot you LAN to see is something wrong has happened。

4. Why Engine appears to be yellow after starting the Inside Version

①Perhaps Inside Version was blocked by anit-virus software or firewall, in this case ,just to configure the anti-software or firewall to permit Inside Version to run。②Perhaps you forget to start “LaneCat InSide Server Service”, just start it to solve this problem。③You forget to start WorkStation , just start it。

5. Why LaneCat Inside Version can not monitor any computers in LAN

①Perhaps Inside Version was blocked by firewall , switch it off。②Perhaps IP of the computer on which you install Inside Version was changed , you just need to change IP back to its former value and restart the Engien。

6. Why the content of IM chat can not be monitored

①Perhaps you forget to select the monitored item, you need to select it to view the records。②Client was not installed on the computer intended to be monitored, you need to install Client to monitor the computer。③Perhaps some function of LaneCat Inside Version was disabled by your anti-virus software。
